A change in her Hollywood day job gave Elizabeth Di Prinzio the opportunity to create a life where she’d be excited to go to work every day. Combining her eco-friendly habits with her natural ability to spin clay, Elizabeth began making beautiful, natural ceramics for the conscious consumer.
It’s hard to believe that only a year and a half ago, Elizabeth took her first pottery class. Yep, no need to go back and reread that last sentence, you read it right the first time! Previously working within the film and photography industry, Elizabeth always had a fascination with art and design but when she first began to throw (the term used to describe the act of making a pot on a potter’s wheel), she fell in love. “My hands were moving like I had been doing it for years,” says Elizabeth.
And Earth + Element was born.
“𝐼 𝓌𝒶𝓈 𝒾𝓃𝓈𝓅𝒾𝓇𝑒𝒹 𝓉𝑜 𝒸𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓉𝑒 𝐸𝒶𝓇𝓉𝒽 + 𝐸𝓁𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉 𝒶𝓈 𝐼 𝓈𝓉𝒶𝓇𝓉𝑒𝒹 𝓉𝑜 𝓇𝑒𝒸𝑜𝑔𝓃𝒾𝓏𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓈𝒽𝒾𝒻𝓉 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝒶𝓌𝒶𝓇𝑒𝓃𝑒𝓈𝓈 𝑜𝒻 𝒸𝑜𝓃𝓈𝓊𝓂𝑒𝓇𝓈 𝓌𝒶𝓃𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒽𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝒸𝓇𝒶𝒻𝓉𝑒𝒹 𝓅𝒾𝑒𝒸𝑒𝓈 𝓂𝒶𝒹𝑒 𝑒𝓉𝒽𝒾𝒸𝒶𝓁𝓁𝓎 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝓁𝑜𝒸𝒶𝓁𝓁𝓎,” says Elizabeth Di Prinzio, founder of Earth + Element.
Hand-throwing each and every ceramic in her tiny studio in Topanga Canyon, California, Elizabeth creates delicate and unique ceramic products for the home, from bowls, cups and plates to tea candles and vases. Not ruled by the ‘what will sell’ mentality of corporations, Elizabeth designs pieces that are functional, reliable and clean but that also have spirit! Injected with her enthusiasm and own eco-friendly habits, Earth + Element ceramics offer a raw, organic shape with a modern, elegant aesthetic.
After only being officially ‘open for business’ for two months, Earth + Element is doing incredibly well with social media playing a large role in its rapid growth. When a product is handmade using natural products, on a small scale by a local artisan, and it looks as great as these do, I’m not surprised that people are falling in love with Elizabeth’s creations!
While right now Elizabeth is simply trying to keep up with the demands of launching a new business, she has plans for Earth + Element to collaborate with other artists in creating an entire product line of home goods and conscience events. And, the long term plan is for Earth + Element to empower other artisans and consumers to embrace environmental consciousness and ethics in their work and everyday lives. “This wonderful planet is all we have and it gives so much to us,” says Elizabeth. I couldn’t’ agree more. The least we can do is show Mother Nature a little respect in return.
